The future of work is all about how we cope with change at an unprecedented rate. There are many studies of the topic, but all seem to conclude on the primacy of relationships and continuous learning.
Increasingly, routine and transactional activity are being handled by automation and AI. Consequently, much of the mundane, repetitive and manual work is being taken away. As a result, people are taking on more human-centric roles. And the value of our people will be in the extent to which they can add value to others:
- Adding to their knowledge and understanding
- Providing support and encouragement
- Resourcing them
- Empowering them
- Raising their energy and commitment
- Helping them to change themselves
And while this used to be the domain of good managers, this role will be increasingly effected by colleagues. Both junior and senior, and on an everyday basis. What we currently refer to as coaching and upward mentoring will simply be the way we work. It will be the way we influence and add value to colleagues, customers and the business alike.
A flatter structure
Hierarchy in its traditional sense will be a thing of the past, and organic, fast-evolving, learning, agile relationships will provide all we need to guide, empower (and occasionally chasten) each other to collective success.
Within this, the ability to inspire and empower groups of people to create new futures for themselves will become a key enabler. The skill-set required to do this well is one of facilitation – the ability to influence and empower a team of people without taking control.
Culturistics’ Facilitation courses equip people with the insights, the tools and the techniques to engineer self-discovery and generate ownership within teams, in meetings and in workshops – both physical and virtual. And the skills and insights developed in facilitating teams also provide insights in how to better work with individuals.
Our philosophy is that sensitive, facilitative leadership is a choice that is open to all, all of the time, irrespective of status.
